Final Fantasy X is what solidified the JRPG genre for me. With its cinematic elements, improvements on previous games, it opened up and showed the potential of the Final Fantasy Universe. And the Final Fantasy X HD remake helps gives this game the attention it deserves with an visual update, and many many new challenges I’ll have to complete. This game holds a special place in my heart, and be sure to stay until the end because it gets a bit sappy. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, tuned in each week, and kept this dream going. I’m forever grateful for each and every one of you and still can’t believe that we made it to one million subscribers.

FINAL FANTASY X review, the first Final Fantasy game for the PlayStation 2! The adventures of Tidus, Yuna, Auron and the others has stayed in fans’ hearts for decades since it came out. This review looks at its strong points, and where it falls flat.
Final Fantasy Xis a role-playing video game developed and published by Square as the tenth main entry in the Final Fantasy series. Originally released in 2001 for PlayStation 2, the game was re-released as Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in 2013, for PlayStation 4 in 2015, Microsoft Windows in 2016, and for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One in 2019. The game marks the Final Fantasy series transition from entirely pre-rendered backdrops to fully three-dimensional areas (though some areas were still pre-rendered), and is also the first in the series to feature voice acting. Final Fantasy X replaces the Active Time Battle (ATB) system with the “Conditional Turn-Based Battle” (CTB) system, and uses a new leveling system called the Sphere Grid. Final Fantasy X is the game which has impacted my life the most. As the game just turned 20, I felt it was the right time to pour my heart into a project which, I hope, has truly shown how amazing and unique I find it. To put things into perspective, I ugly cried three times during the making of this video. First, after writing the script and watching the ending unfold. Second, when I had finished putting the video on top of the audio, forced to watch Tidus’ and Yuna’s last moments together again. And third, when I watched the entire video in one setting to iron out the quirks, and the beautiful sights and sounds of Spira came together one last time.
Final Fantasy X is so special to me because it managed to make me feel things, to such a degree, no other game has done before or really after it. The characters, the story, the music, the voice acting, the pacing, everything comes so perfectly together here, and Square-Enix has never managed to make something as perfect ever since. Not even close.
This video is first and foremost meant as a tribute to the game, taking you through the entire story and plot of Final Fantasy X, accompanied by my own thoughts and comments on a myriad of aspects, ranging from the plot to gameplay mechanics. I have decided to ultimately focus predominantly on the story, as that is what, to me, truly sets this game apart from the rest. I have also made the artistic decision to include many longer scenes from the game, some which are several minutes long, so as to best convey the original intent and feeling of the game, but shortening them where it makes sense. I hope my choices have made sense to you, and if not, I hope you’ll let me know in the comments.
I have also to the best of my ability included the game’s soundtracks where they fit best, so as to the highest degree possible convey the feeling of being in each section and area of the game. I hope you enjoy my dedication to the game. If you feel like I have left anything out, or if you have any interesting things to add to the story or characters or the world itself, then please let me know – I’d love to hear it.
This project has taken me an entire month to put together and release in the state in which it is presented, which is the main reason why I have been unable to produce as many videos as quickly as I have in the previous months. It was hard, but I am ultimately extremely proud of it. It could not have been accomplished however, without the help of YouTubers Krow’s Graveyard and Sharriko, both of whom have made extensive “no commentary” walkthroughs of the game, the former on PlayStation 2, and the latter on PS4 and PC. I am in their debt, and cannot thank them enough. I have used an excellent piano cover by YouTuber Kylelandry during the Macalania kissing scene and for my end credits, so thank you very much to all of these YouTubers, and please make sure to check out their channels.
Lastly, a massive thank you to the developers, writers, voice actors and composers of Squaresoft, who managed to create a masterpiece for the ages. Thank you.
And to you – thank you so much for watching the video. I sincerely hope I’ve managed to create something which you enjoyed watching as much as I enjoyed making.
Until next time. Cheers, friend.
– Andy
